Looking back on the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux

VRA supported several activities during the 2015 ITS World Congress held in Bordeaux 5-9 October, on various topics related to automation including stakeholder workshops, special interests sessions and demonstrations.  Below, you will find a short summary of the key sessions the project has initiated or participated in.

SW1 – Highly Automated Driving (HAD) trials and demonstrations in Europe

The session gave an overview of some current European HAD trials and demonstrators with an active discussion on topics of policy and legal approaches along with evaluation techniques and prospects for EU wide demonstrations were covered.

SW7 – Cooperation in the field of automated and connected vehicles supporting smart mobility and  the EU-Presidency

The workshop presented the current status of the preparation of the Transport Council, taking place 14th April 2016 in Amsterdam under the theme of Smart Solutions for Sustainable Mobility. A few months before the Netherlands takes the helm of the EU presidency for 2016, the workshop provided an opportunity to present the status of the programme along with introducing working sessions specifically dedicated to the theme of highly automated and connected vehicles.

SIS23-G – Tri-lateral working group on automation in road transport

The EU-US-JP Trilateral Automation in Road Transportation Working Group supports the cooperation between Europe, United States and Japan on the topic of Automation. The session in Bordeaux provided an overview of the main topics of collaboration discussing the preliminary results and the future collaboration initiatives on topics such as connectivity, cybersecurity, human factors, and benefit evaluation.

PR 16 – Certification of automated road vehicles for urban public transport

The session presented views and recommendations for handling certification for automated road transport systems focusing on operational and infrastructural constraint and requirements.
